Sunday’s Obituary

This is the obituary of my 2nd great grandmother.  When times get hard, I remember this statement from the end of the obit.

Her’s was a long and painful life and when the time came for her to say goodbye she was ready to go on the long journey.

Burch Rites Held Here on Thursday

Mrs. Louella Jochlyn Burch died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.G. McCune at 6:30 o’clock Wed. morning Jan. 26.

Mrs. Burch had been an invalid for the past 12 years, her last serious illness being of six weeks duration.

The deceased was born March 26, 1848 at Mexico, Missouri. She grew to young womanhood in her native state and on May 19, 1870 she was united in marriage to J.B. Burch. Five years later in 1875 Mr and Mrs Burch came to Texas, their first home being in the Cow Creek Community in this county where Mr. Burch farmed for several years. Later they moved south to Dublin. In ___(unreadable) the family moved to Dublin and here Mr Burch died many years ago. Eight children were born to Mr and Mrs Burch, four of whom are now living and are: Mrs Lelia McCune, Dublin; Mr Harvey Burch, Ranger; Mr Alfred Burch, Hamilton; Mr. Lewis Burch, Ranger, Oklahoma. All of these were present at the funeral except the latter.

In the winter of 1919 Mrs Burch contracted flu which later developed into sleeping sickness. Mrs McMcune who then resided in Thurber removed her mother to Thurber, all coming back to Dublin about three years ago to make their home. Mrs Burch recovered from her long illness but it left her unable to get about however it did not take from her cheerful disposition and she was always ready to visit with friends and was a constant reader until a short time before her death. For many years Mrs Burch was active in church work having been a member of the Baptist Church.

Her’s was a long and painful life and when the time came for her to say goodby she was ready to go on the long journey.

Funeral services were held at one o’clock at the McCune house on Thursday afternoon Jan 27. Rev. J.M. Bradford afficating, interment was at the Roch Cemetary.
