About Me

I’m a husband, father of 4, attorney, gardener, boy scout leader, and amateur genealogist. I’ve taught free courses for beginners on genealogy and family history and really enjoy helping people make a connection with their families.

I don’t pretend to know it all, but I’ve picked up a few things in 20 years of genealogy work. I’m always surprised how helpful a small idea can be to others when I’ve taken it for granted, assuming everyone was already doing it that way. This blog is my way to share what I’ve learned and what I’m still learning.

My family research has been a real surprise to me. I was always told my family was made up of many different ethnicities. However, going 10 generations back (or more) all but one line is still in the continental US – or colonies as the case may be. From revolutionary war heroes to the alcoholic who walked out on his wife and 9 kids, you never know what you’ll find. Whatever it is, it’s all part of you.
